Thinking of you

Here is the last of my sympathy cards made for family members of my friend Gavin  (see my previous two posts).

This card is for Jenny, Gavin's partner.

Background was made by 'spattering' several different inks, then mounted onto cardbase.  Flowers & leaves were stamped in black & clear embossed and watercoloured.  Extra layers of die cuts were added for dimension.

Sentiment was heat embossed in gold on a strip of vellum.

Flowers were arranged and added to cardfront in layers.

I am loving playing with my Altenew stamps #Altenew

Happy 21st Birthday

The nephew Liam celebrates his 21st birthday!  Where does the time go?

I made a card using his favourite football team colours - black, white & teal (Port Power)

For the Cardfront, Bubbles were stenciled using my home-made stencil with Spellbinders Circle Dies and randomly placed & coloured using blending brushes with Blue, Grey & Black Distress Inks.  The outer border was coloured with Copics.

Sugar Pea 'Champagne bottle & glasses' were stamped & die cut, then coloured in with Copics and highlighted with Kindy Glitz & Dimensional Magic, Extra bubble blended & handrwitten '21' added to the cardfront with 3D foam dots.

Honey Bee 'Bitty Buzzwords' Sentiment 'happy' stamped directly onto front of card, 'birthday' die cut from black cardstock, mounted onto white shadow, then added to the cardfront with 3D foam dots.

Gems added for a final touch of bling!

Inside the card I made a pocket for some money - stamped with VersaMark.

just roll with it

Happy Birthday ..... LOL

LOVE this stamp & die set from Altenew, I stamped the skates and die cut them out

DP from Kassazz (Little Wisdom) was trimmed to suit cardfront using the sketch as a guide.
Edges were roughed up with Edge Distresser tool, then attached to cardbase with 3D foam.
Skates were attached for the front with 3D foam.
Sentiment was stamped directly onto cardfront using Stamping Tool.

Inspired by a sketch at Freshly Made Sketches

Happy Birthday

A birthday card today, inspired by a sketch on Freshly Made Sketches and Colour selection from Just Add Ink

I used my own handmade circle stencil, made with Spellbinders Circle dies & acetate, to make the 'bubbles' using blending brushes on a white 210gsm cardfront.

'Happy Birthday' from MFT 'Adorable Elephants' stamped directly to the cardfront in Black, trimmed to suit with a blue border added to define the edge.  Cardfront was then added to 300gsm cardbase using 3D foam.

Two cocktail glasses & umbrellas from Sugar Pea Stamps 'Cheers to You' were stamped, die-cut & coloured in with Copics then layered onto the cardfront with 3D foam ... and a finishing touch of Kindy Glitz/Stickles & bling.

I used Distress Inks - Twisted Citron, Tumbled Glass & Mustard Seed - they are the closest to the Just Add Ink colours I have.

I am quite pleased with this card - I hope you like it too!

**UPDATED**  Oooh - My card was chosen Princess of Clean by Judy for Freshly Made Sketches!

You're not old ... you're vintage!

I had a lot of fun making this card.

I stamped the TV and die cut several times, making a shaker window for the screen. I placed TV onto background SDP, then used a Stampin' Up Marker to define the edge.

Sentiment was stamped using Stampin' Up Marker Bravo Burgundy - I am amazed they still work after all these years!

I just love these layering stamps & dies - they create such interest in an otherwise clean & simple card. #Altenew

Mum

It will be Mother's Day on the 2nd Sunday in May for us here in Australia, and whilst it has been many years since Mr Fixit and myself lost our Mums, my Mum has been on my mind of late..... so I made a card for her 💗

I had another play with the Altenew BAF Lavender stamp & die set.  When I first used this set, I found it a little difficult to line up the stem exactly if you wanted to die cut the whole flower .... so I found a work around!    I die-cut first!   LOL

I cut out as many flowers as I needed.  I kept one of the 'background' holes and placed it in my Couture Creations Stamping Platform, then placed the die-cut in the hole.  Using the stamping platform, I was then able to align the stamps exactly where needed.   This was really useful for doing a batch of flowers at the same time.  The process is:  stamp the first layer, remove die-cut, then place a new die-cut in the hole, re-ink & stamp again.  Then when ready for second layer, line up second layer & repeat the process.

Once I had finished stamping a batch of flowers, I could then get down to the layout of the card.  I wanted it fairly simple ....... so an ink spattered background using the same colours from the flowers seemed just right.

The flowers were arranged and attached at slightly different layers using foam dots.  'MUM' was die-cut in white cardstock and ink blended with a brush using the darker purple ink and the 'shadow' was die-cut out of vellum.

A tiny splattering of 'Kindy Glitz'/Stickles' was the final touch!

I think that our Mums would have loved a card like this.

Noel

I have a new card to share today.

A little while back, I left a comment on Christina Griffiths' Blog and I won a prize - it was a Die Cutting Essentials magazine, which included a free die set.

It took a little while to get here .... all the way from the U.K. and this weekend I have had time to have a quick play.

Inspired by the Freshly Made Sketches Challenge #577, I used the snowflake & Noel from this free set and combined it with a Spellbinders Snowflake I already had. I die cut everything from silver holographic card & layered with black card to add dimension.  A strip was cut from black leathergrain cardstock scaps.  I thought the plain white background was a bit too plain, so I used some black, grey & silver inks to do some paint splatters, with a final touch of teeny tiny stars for some bling.

A Christmas Card fits in with the Happy Little Stampers AG Christmas Challenge , and the Christmas Crafts All year Round March Challenge of '3 red hens' or 3 of anything dictated the number of snowflakes .... all in all, the card came together relatively quickly.

The 52 Christmas Card Throwdown March Challenge of Black & Silver inspired my choice of colours, but sadly, I was too late to link my card up  (I will leave the link anyway - go visit and check it out)

Thank you again, Christina, I love visiting your blog and seeing your work.  I think I will enjoy playing some more with this die set.

With Sympathy

Sympathy cards are always hard to make, but sometimes, the challenge blogs can help with inspiration.

One of my camera club friends, Donna, passed away unexpectedly ..... she was only 64.  I needed a card for her partner & soulmate Michael.  Donna had a wonderful laugh, always greeted everyone with a smile and will be sorely missed.

I experimented a little bit with this card.  I used a Spellbinders Die as a stencil - not the die cut, the actual metal die.  I quite like how the slight overflow on the edge of the die creates a white frame without adding extra layers.  I also kind of like that the blue looks like sky with the dandelions blowing in the breeze :)  so it fits with the Just Add Ink challenge of Day/Silhouette.

Cardstock:  Leathergrain 300gsm cardstock.
Background:  Distress Inks - Tumbled Glass, Salty Ocean, Chipped Sapphire, Wilted Violet blended with brushes.

Happy Birthday

I created a fun shaker card for the niece's birthday.

First up I made up a handmade background - with inking/smooshing and blotting - I think it has become my favourite technique this year - such a versatile technique being able to chose particular colours; some of which were chosen from the Just Add Ink #625 Inspiration Photo.

I then used one of my big balloon dies and cut out from the card front & the front layer of the card base.
Acetate was placed on the front, added 3d foam around the aperture and placed some gems and sprinkles in the well of the shaker section.  I added acetate to the back of the card front and placed over the top of the card base.

Sentiment 'happy birthday' stamped & die cut 3 times then layered together before being placed over the balloon.  A nice gold ribbon to add the final touch.

I forgot that the verse would show through the card, so I added a verse on the back :)

I am having a lot of fun with figuring out the best way to make shaker cards .... some ways are more successful than others.
